Bunions

What Are Bunions?

Bunions are bony bumps that develop on the joint at the base of the big toe, causing the big toe to bend toward the other toes. This condition can cause discomfort, swelling, and tenderness, potentially leading to difficulty in finding properly fitting footwear. Over time, bunions may worsen and cause chronic foot pain.

Managing Bunions

Treatment for bunions often involves non-surgical methods to alleviate discomfort, such as wearing proper footwear that doesn't exacerbate the condition and using orthotic devices or padding to reduce pressure. In some cases, custom-made shoe inserts or splints may help. If non-surgical methods don't provide relief, surgery might be recommended to correct the alignment of the toe and remove the bony bump. Consulting with a podiatrist is crucial to determine the best course of action based on the severity of the bunion and individual circumstances.
